Indra K. Nooyi is the Chairman and CEO of PepsiCo, and named one of the world?s most powerful women by Businesswek. Ms. Nooyi served as CFO since 2000.
Indra grew up a rebel, joining an all-girls cricket team and playing in a rock band. Ms. Nooyi graduated from Madras Christian College in India with a degree in Chemistry, Physics and Math. After graduation, she joined Tootal, a British textile company. She moved from there to Johnson & Johnson as a brand manager. She then joined the MPPM (now MBA) from Yale University. After graduating from Yale in 1980, Indra became a management consultant at BCG. She quit BCG to join Motorola as VP and Director of Corporate Strategy and Planning. From there she moved to Senior Vice President of Strategy, Planning and Strategic Marketing for Asea Brown Boveri, Inc, before being hired to work at Pepsi, where she was made SVP of Strategic Planning, Corporate Strategy and Development in 1994. She was responsible for PepsiCo’s worldwide strategic planning function, including developing and coordinating business plans for PepsiCo’s operating divisions. Indra made her mark at Pepsi as its chief dealmaker workingn on several acquisitions including the $3.3 billion acquisition of Tropicana, the $14 billion purchase of Quaker Oats and the $337 million acquisition of SoBe. Her success as a dealmaker lead to her appointment as CFO, and later as CEO, and finally Chairman of the company.
